Integrating immersive Storytelling in live broadcast

With the upswing of virtual reality technology such as Oculus Rift or Google Cardboard, traditional media is undergoing a shift from looking or viewing to experiencing. 

Since YouTube and Facebook have begun to facilitate in uploading 360-degree videos, there’s no denying that interactive videos have propelled into the next big game changers. Whether it involves Virtual Reality glasses or online experiences, 360-degree videos are literally transforming the status quo of storytelling.

About Fisheye

In this Sandbox project the cross media production company Fisheye collaborated on how to integrate immersive storytelling in a live broadcast. Fisheye is a crossmedia production company integrating technology on a early stage for more than 10 years. They recently startup a studio focussing on virtual reality productions called Fisheye VR.

About this case

Fisheye, Centrum voor Ronde van Vlaanderen and Sporza decided to join forces in doing a project at the ‘Ronde van Vlaanderen’.  The VRT Sports Department has an excellent tradition in covering cycling events. Now it was Fisheye’s challenge to create an added value. Together they decided to take the spectator ‘s angle as a starting- point, capturing three episodes of the race. Experience the race as if you were there, at the kick-off, at a junction and deep into the finale. 

The videos were processed and put online even before the race was over. You will be able to check out the whole story through Oculus glasses at the ‘Centrum voor de Ronde van Vlaanderen’. Go and have a look at
